This 16th century tower house is located at Doolin Point, it's now privately owned and not open to the public. In the past it belonged to the O'Brien and O'Connor clans.

Unfortunately this picturesque location has a pretty shady past. In 1588 a ship from the Spanish Armada sank along the coast of Doolin. 170 crew members managed to escape the ship wreck and made their way towards the castle but they didn't receive a warm welcome. Boetius Clancy, the (High Sheriff of Clare) acting on advice of William Fitzwilliam (Lord Deputy of Ireland) ordered their arrest and subsequent death by hanging at a location close to the castle known as 'Cnocán an Crochaire’ ( Hangman's Hill)
